Doctors
Both
partners have a commitment to a friendly, caring style of family medicine,
regularly updating their knowledge and skills via reading, seminars
and refresher courses. Both have children, so have experienced all the
pitfalls and pleasures of parenthood. Spare time and holidays are usually
spent travelling or in sporting, family or musical activities.
Medically
speaking, Bob Wilson finds asthma treatment, travel medicine
and minor surgery particularly rewarding, whilst Alice Chishick
enjoys women's health and obesity management especially.
| Following
the retirement in April 2008 of Dr Bill Mallam, after over 40 years
working in the Practice, we have been joined by Dr Shahnaz Shaeper.
She lives in Felpham with her husband (a GP in Bognor) and three
small children. In her spare time she enjoys time with the family,
and keeping fit (largely by running). Dr Shaeper will work four
sessions a week initially
(see Surgery Hours ). |
 |
We
have been particularly fortunate since January 2001 to have the additional
talents of Dr Angela Barnado, who works as an assistant on Monday
mornings and Tuesday and Friday afternoons.
Angela
was previously a GP in Essex, but is now happily settled in Selsey.
She enjoys hypnotherapy and psychological medicine, as well as the wide
variety of challenges that General Practice provides.
District
Nurses
If
you require the District Nursing Team, please telephone or call in to
the surgery and ask the reception staff for further information and
contact details.
Midwives
During
your pregnancy, you will be cared for by the Pallant Team of midwives.
The
midwife will organise to come and see you at home at around 10 to 12
weeks of pregnancy. At this appointment she will discuss your pregnancy
care plan, take your medical history and do some routine blood tests.
The
main midwife at the practice is Sarah Griffin; she has been with
the practice for 14 years. She aims to offer continuity of care and
carer, and will try to look after you in labour and see you afterwards
at home. The midwife will discuss the pros and cons of having a home
birth and offer support for whichever method of birth you should choose.
The team offer evening "Parentcraft" classes for couples on
Tuesday evenings at St Richard's Hospital.
Please ensure that the Surgery has your correct telephone number and
address for us to make contact with you.
Further
information is available from Sarah Griffin, who can be contacted on
Pager Number 07659 515106.
Phlebotomist
(Greek
Phleb: a vein)
Tracy
is our lady who takes blood samples for us in her twice-weekly clinics.
These are usually held first thing in the mornings so that:
a) if fasting is required prior to the blood-taking, this can be done
overnight and breakfast is only slightly delayed!
b) the samples can then get to the Laboratory early in the day, thus
providing quicker results.
Her
clinics are by appointment, and can be for blood tests requested either
by the hospital or your GP.
Health
Visitor
Sue
Cousens is
our Health Visitor. She qualified firstly as a nurse, then followed
by a year's training for the Health Visitors Degree.
She
sees herself as a "Family Health Advisor" for families with
under-5s, advising on the care and management of babies and toddlers
and general family well-being. Sue offers child developmental reviews
at specific ages, but is happy to carry out reviews at other times if
parents are concerned.
Sue
runs a bab/child clinic each week which families can pop in to for advice.
She can be contacted on 01243 774239.
Practice
Nurses
Our
senior Practice Nurse are Jill Jeater, Karen Shelswell and
Annie Smith. They all work part-time. Apart from the Special
Clinics
mentioned elsewhere, both offer a full-range of Nursing Services, including
ulcer and wound dressing, stitch removal, ear syringing, lifestyle and
dietary advice, well-person checks, and cervical smears. All their clinics
are by appointment.
Karen enjoys music, reading and foreign travel, and has worked both
in the States and Africa. Jill is a keen and experienced sailor and
enjoys breaks in her motorhome.
Administrative Staff
Our
loyal and hardworking team of ladies are ably-led by Pam Clarke,
who started as Practice Manager at the beginning of 2005. Pam brings
a wealth of experience to us, having run a similar-sized Practice in
Kent for many years. We hope to raise the standards of care and service
even higher under her guiding hand.
Michaela, Michelle, Helen, Elaine, Nicola, Tracy and Kara are
all highly industrious and committed to providing as high a standard
of service to our patients as possible. They are able to fill all staff
roles, so that we do not lose a 'vital
cog' when anyone is away.
If you have any comments or questions regarding the running of the Practice,
please ask Pam or one of the doctors.
At Tangmere, we have a team of three to provide administrative back-up.
Monika is our new Dispenser (see Dispensing),
whilst Linda, Liz and Sue carry
out Reception/Office duties in exemplary fashion, often without a doctor
on the premises.
